sweating in the tall grass
in the shade of aspen
wildflowers scatter perfect changing designs across a billion years of creation
frogs croak
and blackbirds whistle
and mosquitoes hunt in my ear
wolfwillow perfume hangs
in the hot still breath
that coats leaves and wood and skin in fresh velvet
as this day yawns wide with unflinching light
solstice peaks in the prairie afternoon

rain dance

eli's rain dance -
performed after it is already raining -
choreographed by reaction of the cold raindrops splashing on his skin
